Interior designer: why is it needed?

Some apartment buyers have already realize that the designer is not a movie character about a beautiful life, but necessary profession, and spending on it is an investment. However, many still believe that you that you can arrange furniture yourself.

We will not immediately take the position of one or the other, but try to figure out why interior designers still take money. To design with, we note that such a profession is not a fashionable novelty at all; it also existed in soviet times, then being called a “decorator company in Sharjah”.

Who Is an Interior Designer?

An experienced designer has a “portfolio”, that is, examples of completed projects- with photos, drawings, 3D mock-ups and customer reviews. And the thicker the folder, the richer the list of customer reviews and the more known the addresses of the objects, the more expensive the cost of the services of such a designer. Although, of course, you can hire a student who needs projects for thesis. And you will definitely save.

A professional first of all gets acquainted with the wishes, lifestyle, habits, preferences of the customer and his household. The fact is that the lifestyle directly affects the organization of the interior space of the apartment, the arrangement of furniture, lighting fixtures, the range of household appliances and much more.

Imagine a customer is a lonely entrepreneur who takes part of the work home, needs a library, office equipment and household appliances that save a maximum of time. Or a completely different option - a large family where mom is a housewife. It is clear that not only equipment, arrangement of furniture, but also the choice of materials, textures, colors, will differ significantly. Another example: for a person who eats outside the house, he doesn’t cook, he does not need exquisite kitchen furniture and household appliances for cooking. And those who like to receive guests will need a well-organized common space. All these nuances are taken into account by the designer. Here are the tips to hire private interior designer for your home.

The First Step Is Getting To Know

Acquaintance with the customer, his wishes, tastes and preferences may well be an independent service, it is called express consultation. Its result is usually an understanding of what can be done with such an apartment layout, how much time these or other works will take and what the materials, work, interior elements, furniture, appliances will cost.

Express consultation is useful primarily for those who have never encountered decoration or repair and want to consult a specialist. But not only. It happens that the customer has a general idea of what his apartment will look like, knows how and what will do, but wants to present it more clearly.

A professional designer will advise such a person, add nuances - the missing elements in the mosaic. An express consultation can also be considered as the first introductory meeting to understand if you really need a designer. And if so, then outline the outline of closer cooperation, which we will discuss later.

The second step is the pre-project.

If the customer understands that he needs a designer, a contract is concluded - either for the whole range of services, or for the most necessary. First of all, the designer takes measurements, selects materials, and consults with sellers and manufacturers. It is worth noting here that if you already have a vision of the general interior and furnishings, the designer can work with the named brands and brands or offer his own option.

Then a pre-project, i.e. a set of sketches, is provided. There can be a lot of them, but do not bring to infinity. You want to embody your sense of taste, so trust your intuition. The first wish, as a rule, is correct. With professional improvements, of course.

After the general concept of the project is agreed with the customer, the designer draws up a detailed drawing, with dimensions, wiring diagrams of electricians, heating, and ventilation. Yes, more than half of the apartments are already sold with decoration or engineering training. However, these are typical solutions of developers that do not exactly take into account the individual wishes of customers. Almost always, when a person buys an apartment not for subsequent sale, but for himself, he strives for maximum comfort and has some financial reserve for the completion of housing.

As experience with professional builders shows, the wiring of communications has to be redone more often than other elements of engineering. Many buyers dismantle the finish from the builder after several years of residence, allowing the house to "stand". At this stage, a designer is also involved, who should not only be a creative person and partly a psychologist, but also actually an engineer who knows the drawing business, the properties of materials, building codes.

Using special programs, the designer models the future interior in the form of a three-dimensional picture. At this stage, you either accept the work, pay off and stay with the apartment project album, and then proceed to its independent implementation. Or give the green light to the implementation of the project by the author. Then a team of builders starts, either yours or those the designer knows.

Step Three - Supervision

Collaboration with a designer may not be limited to designing a project. There is such a thing as “field supervision”, that is, work as a curator of the construction site. Here it is necessary to carefully monitor the builders so that there are no errors in the production of work. To fall in size and color is the easiest task at this stage.

The fact is that in the picture everything looks beautiful, in the drawings - it is understandable. However, often builders tend to deviate from the project approved by the customer. Especially if the construction team is hired separately and is not familiar with the designer. Often, they simply do not have sufficient qualifications, so they make their own “adjustments” to the project.

The designer regularly visits the site to monitor the progress of the work. This is done in order to eliminate the unnecessary “creative impulse” of the builders, or, more simply, the “gag”. It is worth noting that field supervision does not include quality control of work. It is carried out by the head of builders, the foreman or the owner of the property.
